A RESOLUTION

AUTHORIZING SUMMARY

PUBLICATION OF

ORDINANCE 2023-09

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Maple Lake has adopted Ordinance 2023-09, titled “AN ORDINANCE ADDING CHAPTER 62 OF THE MAPLE LAKE CITY CODE AUTHORIZING AND REGULATING THE CONDUCT OF LAWFUL GAMBLING;” and

WHEREAS, in the case of lengthy ordinances or those containing charts or maps, Minnesota state law allows the City Council to approve, by a four-fifths vote, the publication of an ordinance by title and summary only; and

WHEREAS, the expense to publish the complete three-page text of the ordinance is not justified; and

WHEREAS, the following summary clearly informs the public of the intent and effect of the ordinance.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Maple Lake, Wright County, Minnesota, that the following summary is hereby approved for publication:

ORDINANCE NO. 2023-09

The City Council of the City of Maple Lake has adopted Ordinance 2023-09, titled “AN ORDINANCE ADDING CHAPTER 62 OF THE MAPLE LAKE CITY CODE AUTHORIZING AND REGULATING THE CONDUCT OF LAWFUL GAMBLING.”  The ordinance codifies the city’s current administrative procedure for approving gambling premises permits, as required by state law.  Additionally, the ordinance provides a trade area requirement that would require each organization licensed to conduct lawful gambling within the City to expend a certain percentage of its lawful purpose expenditures on lawful purposes conducted within the City’s trade area, which is defined as the City, Maple Lake Township, Albion Township, and Corinna Township.  The full text of the ordinance is available for inspection at Maple Lake City Hall during regular business hours.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Maple Lake, Wright County, Minnesota, that the City Administrator keep a copy of the ordinance at City Hall for public inspection during business hours and post a full copy of the ordinance at the community library or another public place in the City.

Adopted and approved by the City Council of the City of Maple Lake on a vote of 5ayes and 0 nays effective on the 1st day of August, 2023.
