In the first part of the Haverty family history, the reader was introduced to Tom and Mary Lyons Haverty and their children. Part II will follow the next generation, John (Jack) and Mary Amanda (Mollie Holmberg) Haverty. Information for this story comes from research done by Mary Haverty Stumpf, Jim Dahlseid, and G.W. (Bill) Haverty. Also plat, census, birth, death, and marriage records were used to tell this story. Information and Rasset photos were also obtained from the Wright County Historical Society.
The John “Jack” and Mollie (Holmberg) Haverty Family
In Mary Haverty Stumpf’s family history, she wrote, “Jack built a home on the forty acres purchased for him by his mother and father. Jack married Mollie Holmberg on May 11, 1898. This will become the Haverty farmstead. His brother Tom Jr. will be given the 40 acres of land by his parents directly south of Jack and Mollie’s property. (In the 1901 plat, his mother Mary’s name is on the piece of land he will receive.) Notice their location, they are situated close to the new town of Rasset which was near the junction of CR 8 and CR 35 in Chatham and founded in 1900.
Jack and Mollie will have two sons and six daughters. The Haverty generations do seem to produce more females than males.
