It seems like there is no end to our summer rains this year which has caused a lot of flooding in the state, and in particular Waterville, where the whole town is being flooded and they are seeking more volunteers to help with sandbagging, etc. There is more rain predicted for the weekend which could affect the Crow River in Wright county and the Minnesota River. Fortunately Maple Lake has been spared some of the heavier downpours. I’m guessing the farmers would like to see some sunshine soon!

Dennis Anderson put together some hints from professional walleye anglers in Sunday’s Tribune as we head into July. They gave different lures and bait for some of the state’s premier walleye lakes and how the zebra mussels have affected the clarity of the water which has also changed their feeding habits. It sounds like anglers will need to be ready to go with the flow if they want to get bites.  Don Dittberner said he caught five keeper Walleyes over the weekend as well as some crappies. He attended a Lakeshore Owners meeting about land improvements in Ottertail County.
