Elizabeth Ann Alden, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver, was born in Minneapolis on October 29, 1948 to Neil and Jean (Sklaz) Alden. A graduate of Wayzata High School, Liz continued her educational journey in Mankato to become a teacher and later pursued nursing at North Hennepin. Over the years, she worked in the Orono and Wayzata school districts. Her unique combination of skills in education and nursing enabled her to provide invaluable support to students facing physical challenges, embodying her dedication to serving others.
Liz, known to her loved ones as a compassionate soul, found joy in the simple things in life. A lover of literature, gardening, a good glass of wine, and lively discussions on politics, she brought warmth and kindness to all those she encountered. Her nurturing spirit extended to her family, relatives, and to her students.
Elizabeth’s family was the center of her world. She was united in marriage in Wayzata to Rodney Schumacher; they shared over 35 years of love. She was dedicated to her grandchildren and they were her greatest priority. Liz’s legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we mourn her loss, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the lasting impact she had on all who were touched by her presence. Liz will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the light she brought into the lives of those around her.
She is survived by her adoring husband, Rodney; son, Antun O’Riley; grandchildren, Jade and Jacob O’Riley; stepchildren, Lisa (Craig) Serfas and Lance (Jennifer) Schumacher; step-grandchildren, Jake, Josh, Charlie, Megan, Jason, Jordyn, Luke, and Logan; siblings, Diane Alden and John Alden; nieces and nephews, Lindsay Korus, Jamie Vikre, Brian Alden, Andrew, Nate, and Lisa Lang; and many other relatives and friends.
