While the presidential election draws national attention, let’s not forget the races that are taking place right here in Maple Lake this fall.
Both the city council and the school board have contests gearing up for the Nov. 5 general election.
At the city level, five candidates are running for two council seats and two opponents will vie for mayor.
At Maple Lake Public School, there are four seats on the school board opening up, with five hopefuls on the ballot.
In the coming weeks, Maple Lake Messenger staff will do their best to help you get to know each of the candidates. As in years past, candidates will have the opportunity to tell the community a little about themselves on the pages of the Messenger.
In late September, early October, the Messenger will host its annual Meet the Candidates Forum at City Hall. The forum will give candidates an opportunity to express their views on city issues and answer any questions the public may have.
Not only is the community invited to attend this event in person, all are invited to submit questions. Selected questions will be presented to the candidates by the moderator at the forum. For those who can’t attend, the event will be broadcast on the Maple Lake Government Access Channel 180 and made available on the City website: https://ci.maple-lake.mn.us Questions should be sent to news@maplelakemessenger.com. The deadline to submit questions is Friday, Sept. 20, by 5 p.m.
