Wright County Commissioners voted 4-1 last week to freeze their own wages and put the savings in the fund balance for the upcoming year.
Commissioner Nadine Schoen made the motion at the Tuesday, Oct. 1 County Board meeting to show how dedicated the commissioners are to a trim 2025 budget.
She thanked the department leadership and staff for their hard work in helping the County get to an acceptable 2025 budget and freezing commissioners wages for the year “shows solidarity that we are also willing to do what we need to do and make sacrifices.”
On Sept. 24, county commissioners approved the 2025 preliminary draft budget in the amount of $208,176,035 and tax levy in the amount of $100,427,279. The levy amount represents a 5.71% increase. At that time, commissioners acknowledged the months of hard work staff put in to find a resolution that meets the needs of taxpayers as well as the needs of the County.
“So much appreciation goes out to department leadership and staff for all their sacrifices and hard work put in to get us to the 2025 budget,” Schoen said.
