Maple Lake is Section 5AA runner-up

The Maple Lake High School volleyball team ended its season in the Section 5AA Championship match last weekend.

The Irish went into the tournament as the No. 2 seed and cruised through the bracket defeating No. 7 seed Kimball at home in the quarterfinals, and No. 3 seed Providence Academy in the semifinals to advance to the championship game where they faced No 1 seed Annandale for a state tournament berth.

The Cardinals won 4-1 which means they will advance to the Minnesota State High School League State Tournament Nov. 6-9th at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.  Their first match is Thursday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. against No. 4 seed Southwest Christian (19-12). The Cardinals (23-6) are the No. 5 seed.
