Voter turnout is “excellent”

Maple Lake had an exceptional turnout for the Nov. 5 general election, City Administrator Scott Hildebrand reported to the city council at its regular meeting, Wednesday, Nov. 13.

The City of Maple Lake started with 1,345 registered voters at 7 a.m. on election day. Throughout the day,108 more registered for a grand total of 1,453 voters. Of those, 1,225 voted on Nov. 5th which equates to 83.3%.

“An excellent turnout,” Hildebrand said.

Part of the City Council’s job on Wednesday was to certify the election results, which they did unanimously.

Incumbent Lynn Kissock garnered the most votes with 940 or 82.75%, to remain as the City of Maple Lake’s mayor for another two years. Her opponent, John Haack claimed 189 votes or 16.64%. There were seven write ins.

Claiming the two four-year council seats up for grabs was incumbent Wayne Paumen with 757 votes or 42.44% and Kristen Logas with 450 votes or 25.10%
