
The Irish boys and girls track and field teams took first place out of seven teams at the annual Maple Lake Lions Invitational, Tuesday, April 22 at Maple Lake High School.
The Maple Lake Lions have sponsored this meet for 24 years. On Tuesday, several members were at the track helping out, Irish Coach Ben Youngs said.
The Irish continued its winning ways in the throws with Carter Courtright taking first in both the shot put and the discus throw. On the girls’ side, Stacy Scherber won the shot put and finished second in the discus while teammates Violet Tulenchik won the discus throw and Avery Lee was runner-up.
In the distance events, Lauren Anglin set personal bests in the 1600 and 3200-meter races. Brooklyn Fobbe and Grace Ronnenberg, who are trying out the long races for the first time this season, also placed in the 3200.
