Drawn to Release

Local hunters share adventures on YouTube channel

By Brenda Erdahl

There’s a time of year that Nicole Elfmann favors above all others.

She knows it’s close when the days start to grow shorter, the trees put on their fall colors and there is a decided crispness to the air. That’s when deer hunting season starts – the most wonderful time of the year.

“It’s almost like a sickness,” she said. “When fall comes that’s all I want to do.”

Nicole and her husband Scott, both 2009 Maple Lake High School graduates, live on a farm south of Maple Lake where the great outdoors is literally a hop, skip and a jump away. Hunting is their common passion, shared even by their 2 ½ year old son Camden who declares “I shoot big buck,” whenever his parents talk about their love – which is often.

In fact, the sport of hunting has brought the couple so much enjoyment over the years, they decided they wanted to share it with the world. That desire has led them to create a YouTube channel called Drawn to Release.

The site has an archery focus, as the name suggests, but to Nicole it’s more than that.

“It’s more like release your passion for hunting, wildlife and the outdoors,” she said.

The project is still in its infant stages, with 30 or so subscribers, but given the Elfmanns’ knowledge of the sport, captivating images of the hunt and desire for adventure, it’s sure to attract more.
