Brute’s Bleat by Harold Brutlag

Fishing on Rock Lake Tuesday with George Palmer was supposed to be good with a hint about where to fish. It didn’t turn out that way although we put five nice sized bluegills and a crappie in the live well using fly rods. I’m still mystified why the sunfish haven’t been spawning with the usual reckless abandon now that the water temperature is right around 70 degrees. We caught quite a few really plump sunnies that had to be females filled with spawn. We threw those back. We moved to Ramsey lake with plans to fish a spot where we caught a lot of sunfish previously and kept six, more than enough for yours truly. George and I headed for the spot and found out it must have been too good for anglers. There was a pontoon parked across the end of the dock and fishing out further didn’t poduce the size of sunnies that we wanted. It was the same spot Daryl Hennen I fished the Thursday before and released all the small sunnies and ten larger ones we caught in that spot. George and I fished a couple of other spots but the weeds are getting to be too much of a hassle. It will get better when the sunnies are in deeper water.
