Brute’s Bleat by Harold Brutlag

I’ve had some interesting evenings watching the wild life in our backyard early on the morning or later in the evening. There seems to be a lot more squirrels, some which seem to be getting used to me and will crack and eat black walnuts on our picnic table. The rabbits must have had a tremendous spring birthing a lot of baby rabbits which now are large enough to be out on their own looking for food. I don’t have a garden, but they still come around chewing on the young hosta pedals or checking out the Hwy. 55 ditch for something green. I suspect they’re getting their stomachs full of neighborhood garden lettuce and other produce they may like. If I was still in my pre-teens I’d be more interesting in getting out the .22 rifle, but watching them now seems to be more rewarding.
