The thunder and lightning Wednesday evening was quite an oddity for this part of Minnesota. Some of the flashes and rumblings were quite a ways off, but at other times they seemed darn close. We didn’t get much rain and not a whole lot of wind, but there were some branches in the backyard that weren’t there the day before the storm. The sudden big drop in temperatures from Wednesday to Thursday was unusual too. We were fortunate not to have been in the path of a tornado like Iowa and southern Minnesota. The unofficial count was five tornadoes went through southern Minnesota with Hartland hit the hardest and Lewiston next in line. Global warming seems to have been the culprit for the recent storms, that’s something we can’t ignore!
Maple Lake’s street crew was ‘Johnny on the spot’ Saturday morning following the 2 inches of fresh fluffy snow. They had the streets plowed about 6:15 a.m. on Linden Ave. North and they were removing the snow from the downtown area by about 8:00 a.m. They were ahead of the State crew on Hwy. 55 East. The south side of the highway hadn’t been touched when I went down to CENEX for an eye opening cup of coffee at 6:15 a.m.
