The Babes on Waves (BOW) ladies are doing their part to find a cure for a-myo-trophic-lateral-sclerosis (ALS). This past season, they raised $2,235 for the cause, which also aims to provide support for families and individuals living with the disease.
The ladies have been together since 2021 when a group of neighborhood women went out for a pontoon ride and came back with an ambitious idea to help those struggling with ALS. Several members of the group have been affected personally by the disease.
Their goal was to raise money and participate in the ALS Association’s Walk to Defeat ALS. They started by raising money at the Gear-Head Get Together – a Maple Lake Chamber of Commerce sponsored event held each year in August. They organized games, a dunk booth and other fun activities for families and children in the Maple Lake American Legion parking lot. Since then, they have been participating in the meat raffle at Maple Lake Bar and Grill – Event Center on the first Thursday evening of each month and will now be participating the first and third Thursday evening of each month.
