Contributed report
Volunteers from AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Readers Theater program made their Maple Lake debut as the featured entertainers at the local library’s Summertime Storytime Wednesday, July 3.
A group of 16 children and adults came out for the lively reading of three children’s books. In readers’ theater, stories are read in a small group with each presenter taking on the voice of a character. Rather than acting, the readers use verbal animation and expression with minimal use of props to create a fun and engaging experience which reinforces literacy and the joy of reading.
The RSVP group will be back for Summertime Storytime at the Maple Lake library on Wednesday July 24, Wednesday August 7 and Wednesday August 28.
The RSVP program is also looking for more participants to join the fun this summer or during the school year. It’s a flexible commitment with a big impact. RSVP is open to any adult age 55+ from Wright, Sherburne, Benton or Stearns counties. Contact Carole at 763-765-3036 to find out more.
“The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School” was one of three books AmeriCorps Senior RSVP Readers presented.
Using verbal animation and expression AmeriCorps Senior RSVP Readers worked together to bring life to the stories they read Wednesday, July 3 at the Maple Lake Library’s Summertime Storytime program.
A group of about 16 children and adults visited the Maple Lake Library last week for the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Readers Theater program.
