Looking for ways to trim the budget

By Brenda Erdahl

Maple Lake city council members are looking for ways to trim the proposed general fund budget for 2025 after last week’s Truth in Taxation hearing.

City Administrator Scott Hildebrand presented a budget at the Tuesday, Dec. 3 hearing that proposed a 13.41% tax levy increase over 2024.

After a lengthy discussion and hearing from two members of the community, Mayor Lynn Kissock tasked councilors to once again comb through the budget in search of any areas that might be trimmed. She asked councilors to be prepared to make specific recommendations at the Tuesday, Dec. 17 council meeting. The council must approve a final budget and submit it to the county before the end of December.
