The Irish boys’ basketball team played two close games last week but fell just short.

The Irish hosted Central Minnesota Conference foe EV-W on Thursday, Jan. 9, and despite the outcome, played the Eagles pretty evenly.

By the break, the Irish were down by only five points against this perennial CMC powerhouse. The Irish continued to play tough in the second half and battled back to cut the lead down to just two points with seven minutes left, frustrating the Eagles.

Bowen Walton led the attack with 18 points, seven rebounds and two assists; Wyatt Breimon scored 11 points and Ethan Paumen scored nine.

“Walton, Breimion and Paumen had exceptional games. It’s exactly what I expect from our captains,” Irish Head Coach Bryan Schleif said. “Tonight was another learning experience along the way of building the program back. We are still a young team and being in a close game late with a conference opponent is something to build on.”
