Coming off an emotional, come-from-behind section home victory over Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted back on Dec. 20, the Lightning would take a couple weeks off from competition before hitting the mats for the first official time in 2025 at the Tom Keating Invitational in Foley on Jan. 4.

While there, four Lightning wrestlers advanced to their respective individual finals and one individual earned a title. As a team, the Lightning finished fifth with 125.5 points.

Nathan Klatt (215) provided the highlight amongst the Lightning’s four individual finalists, earning the team’s lone championship. In the finals match, he defeated one of the top wrestlers in the section, Princeton’s Malich Moorhead, by pin at the 3:54– a “dominating” performance, according to Lightning head coach Ben Youngs. This pin marked Klatt’s seventy-fifth career pin.

Klatt remains undefeated this season, having won all his matches by pin or forfeit.
