For what it’s worth

This past week two events have affected me more than I would have thought. First, I received word that my cousin Carolyn had died. Carolyn, cousins Janet and Sheryl and I were born in the same year, 1944. Growing up I enjoyed many good times with them. I hadn’t seen Carolyn in years but still exchanged Christmas cards.

Second, a former high school, college and once roommate, Bob, reached out to me. He had a stroke in August and is making a slow recovery in a senior citizens unit in Shakopee. We had lunch eating the best hamburgers at the Lion’s Tap and caught up on old times. I learned about a number of former friends and acquaintances whom I hadn’t thought about for a while. It was a good day for me and, I think, Bob. This led to the question why Bob and Carolyn and not me?
