The calendar says it is spring, but the weather tells another tale. Two late-season snowstorms have already postponed the early swapping season and pickers aren’t at all that excited about the delay.
“Typically, we open the first weekend in April,” said John Haack, owner of the Maple Lake Flea Market. He had planned on opening his outdoor swap meet Easter weekend. When he woke up to three inches of the powdery white stuff on the ground Saturday morning, March 31 he decided to aim for the following weekend. Snow on Monday, April 2, may once again delay those plans.
“It all depends on the weather, it’s all up to the weather,” said Haack of his seven-year old business that every summer attracts people to downtown Maple Lake for good deals and an array of unique items.
Despite the delay, Haack knows spring is inevitably on its way, and when it finally arrives, he will be ready.
