Meet Santa and his reindeer at Christmas in Maple Lake

By Brenda Erdahl:

Meet Santa Claus and his reindeer on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. until noon at Christmas in Maple Lake in downtown Maple Lake.

For 17 years this annual event has been a highlight of the community’s holiday festivities. Hosted by the Maple Lake Chamber of Commerce, it takes place outdoors along Division and Birch Ave. where families can enjoy kids’ activities, snacks, and real-live reindeer.  The focal point of the celebration is Santa Claus, who arrives by fire truck to the delight of the waiting children. From there he’ll climb into his sleigh, which will be waiting for him along Birch Ave in front of a picturesque backdrop where he’ll pose for photos. Like last year, there will not be a professional photographer, organizer Cathy Elfstrand said, but parents are invited to take their own pictures and there will be volunteers available if the entire family wants to be photographed. The purchase of the backdrop was made possible thanks to a donation from the Ramsey Lake Association, Elfstrand said.
