The Maple Lake Community Park just got a little more exciting thanks to the efforts of local boy scout, Brolin Chlan.
On Sept. 29, Chlan and a crew of volunteers installed a Gaga Ball pit as part of his Eagle Scout requirements.
The octagon shaped enclosure doesn’t look like much, but it’s part of a fast-growing recreational sport that has attracted fans of all ages. The game is similar to dodgeball in that players must try to avoid being hit by the ball to be the last one standing, but instead of catching the ball and throwing it, players bat at the ball with open palms, taking turns and trying to hit their opponents below the knees. Only below the knee hits count. The other big difference is it’s played within an octagon shaped “pit” although the pit sits on top of the ground.
