Youth show off skills

By Brenda Erdahl

The future looks good for Annandale-Maple Lake wrestling based on an elementary level showing last week at the Northland Youth Wrestling Association State Tournament.

The ANML Youth Lightning qualified as a team and sent 11 individuals to the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester where six made it to the podium and of those five wrestled in the finals March 27-30.

As the icing on the cake, the ANML Youth team had an individual claim the “very special” Outstanding Wrestler award. According to coach Sean Glenz, this award goes to the most dominant wrestler in the division and this year, Annandale kindergartner Coen McDonough won it.
