The Maple Lake softball team ended its regular season last week with two on the road losses. On Monday, May 20, the Irish opened the post season with a 5-1 loss to Maranatha Christian Academy.
Kimball 11, Maple Lake 1
The Irish traveled to Kimball on Tuesday, May 14 for a contest against the competitive Cubs. Kimball got off to a strong start, putting four runs on the board in the first two innings.
Maple Lake’s lone run came in the top of the third when Ella Peterson ground out and Alyxis Strzyzewski scored on an error by the Cubs’ first baseman.
Nora Goelz pitched four innings for the Irish, gave up nine hits, 11 runs and struck out one.
Annandale 6, Maple Lake 0
The Irish traveled to Annandale on Friday, May 17. The Irish connected with a few pitches, but couldn’t get a thing past the Cardinals who steadily built up their own lead with one and two -run innings.
Nora Goelz and Charlie Sailer had multiple hits for the Irish. Danica Hageman and Tessa Pribyl also had hits for the Irish.
Maranatha Christian 5, Maple Lake 1
The Irish faced Maranatha Christian Monday, May 20 in Game 1 of the Section 5AA playoffs. Peterson scored Maple Lake’s only run in the top of the first inning when Tessa Pribyl doubled on a flyball to center field.
The Mustangs answered with single runs in the bottom of the first, second and third innings. Their big inning was the bottom of the fourth when they scored two runs.
Goelz pitched six innings for the Irish. She gave up 10 hits, five runs and threw two strikeouts.
The Section 5AA playoffs continued Tuesday, May 21 at the home of the high seed. Results were not available at press time.
