Irish score two touchdowns in home opener

The Irish football team scored two touchdowns in last week’s 60-14 loss to the more experienced and much larger Paynesville Bulldogs.

Maple Lake hosted the Bulldogs at Irish Country Stadium, Friday, Sept. 6. It was Maple Lake’s first home game of the season.

The Irish were knocked around a bit by the bigger Bulldogs who built a 30-point lead by halftime. The tide began to turn in the third quarter for the home team when Joseph Aasen scored a touchdown on a 70-yard kick return to put the Irish on the scoreboard.

Senior Irish quarterback Brock Elston followed with a touchdown on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter. The Irish then executed a successful two-point conversion.
