A trip to Rock Lake last Thursday pretty much told me to find another lake if I wanted any sizeable sunfish. There were several
vehicles in the parking lot, and most were fishing toward the north end of the lake which was too long of a walk for me. I ran into a morning coffee drinking friend, Roland Hegel, in the parking lot who planned to look for crappies. We both headed out in the same general direction, south, and he fished in deeper water while I chose about eight feet. It was warm enough to fish out in the open for several hours, which was nice, but the larger sunfish weren’t cooperating and I released the three I had before calling it a day at 4 p.m.Roland didn’t find any crappies, but said he caught two sunfish on crappie minnows which were also released. With a week of cold weather in the future, I’ll probably stay home and wish I was someplace where it was warmer! To read Harold’s entire story, subscribe to the Maple Lake Messenger today!
